The former president’s name is world-renowned and immediately recognisable.
For this reason alone, we would like to encourage staff and students to use the university’s full name – Nelson Mandela University – whether verbally or in written form, and avoid using the acronym.
We are the only university in the world to have been bestowed this honour and must always be mindful of the great responsibility that comes with it.
In upholding this legacy, please try to use the full title of the University in all your correspondence and conversations.
