Change the world

Vice-Chancellor Prof Derrick Swartz will take centre stage to engage with staff and students at the Mandela Magic Celebration at Missionvale Campus on 18 July.

The official working-afternoon concert to give staff and students an opportunity to celebrate the coming of the new name, will start with an address by Prof Swartz. You are encouraged to wear Mandela T-shirts.

Concert

Thereafter, staff and students will be entertained by their own talented colleagues at a concert in the Missionvale Campus Indoor Sports Centre from 3pm to 4.30pm.

Transport

Buses will run from North, South and Second Avenue campuses to Missionvale from 1pm, and return from 5pm. (Further official communication from HR in guiding this process will follow). Those who have their own transport, however, are encouraged to take colleagues and students along with them.

More detailed transport arrangements will follow closer to the event on Nelson Mandela Day – the official birthday of our namesake, and just two days ahead of the official launch on 20 July.

Living the values

And, in response to your calls for increased community outreach in line with living our values, we’re also running M3 – #Mobilising Mandela Magic – to better support our own students and the surrounding Missionvale community.

We’re encouraging you to offer anything from toothpaste to gardening tools to those in need in a joint campaign by staff and students. Again, more information will follow.
